Capehart Scatchard Sponsors Kids’ Chance Scholarship Recipient

William Gardner

On Thursday, July 28th, Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, John H. Geaney, Esq., has the honor of introducing one of the 15 students receiving a Kids’ Chance of New Jersey Scholarship. The student Mr. Geaney will be introducing is Will Gardner. “Will has been overcoming obstacles all his young life. He is a fighter.” said Geaney. Kids’ Chance of New Jersey was created to provide scholarships for college and vocational education to children of New Jersey workers who have been fatally or catastrophically injured in a work-related accident. Gardner’s father, Bill Gardner, who worked for Fed-Ex as a truck driver, lost his life in a work- related truck accident on October 16, 2012, during Will’s freshman year of high-school. “Besides the emotional toll that this event had on Will and his family, his father’s death also had an immediate financial impact,” said Geaney. Will’s mother, Lisa, sold their home and moved the family to Manalapan, NJ, where he attended high school. Gardner is currently enrolled in Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ. Having had a passion for technology and computers since he was two-years-old, he plans on getting a four-year degree in Computer Networking and Security.

The first Kids’ Chance organization was founded in 1988 by workers’ compensation attorney Robert Clyatt in Vadosta, Georgia. After incorporating the inaugural Kids’ Chance group in Georgia, the organization began reaching out to other states; now over half of the United States have their own independent groups.
