Capehart Scatchard shareholder, John H. Geaney, recently spoke at the New Jersey Self Insurers’ Association’s 2026 Workers’ Compensation Conference and Vendor Fair. Capehart Scatchard was a Gold Sponsor of the event held at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, NJ on May 13-15, 2026.

Mr. Geaney served as the moderator on a program titled, “How to Get the Most Out of Your IMEs and Reduce Permanency Awards.” The panel discussed the importance of selecting the appropriate independent medical examination expert for a particular permanency case, as well as the value of obtaining a petitioner’s prior medical history.

Mr. Geaney is a member of Capehart Scatchard’s Executive Committee and Co-Chair of its Workers’ Compensation Group. He is active in the New Jersey Self Insurers’ Association (Membership and Programs Committees), as well as Kids’ Chance of New Jersey. Mr. Geaney is a member of the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network and is the author of Geaney’s New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Manual for Practitioners, Physicians, Adjusters, and Employers. 

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Kenneth Chiarella, a shareholder in the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department, spoke at a seminar hosted by Concentra Advanced Specialists on May 19, 2026, at The Brownstone in Paterson, New Jersey.

During his presentation, Mr. Chiarella provided a legal update on recent New Jersey case law and proposed legislation relating to workers’ compensation law. Topics discussed included intoxicated employees, respondent lien rights, reimbursement timing issues involving medical claim providers, and coverage of medical marijuana under workers’ compensation.

Mr. Chiarella concentrates his practice in the representation of employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense matters. He earned his J.D. from New York Law School and his B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University. Upon law school graduation, Mr. Chiarella worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Craig L. Corson, J.S.C. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that on March 31, 2026, Michelle L. Duffield, a shareholder in the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department, served as a presenter at the Camden County Bar Association’s inaugural installment of its multi-part program, “First-Time Reporter CLE.” The online program is designed for newly admitted attorneys and offers introductory-level courses to help satisfy their continuing legal education (CLE) reporting requirements.

Ms. Duffield’s session focused on workers’ compensation and provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of key topics, including the two types of claims in New Jersey, required proofs, available defenses, statutes of limitations, benefit types, penalties for delays, temporary disability benefits, waiting periods, and light duty considerations.

With over 15 years of experience, Ms. Duffield focuses her practice in the representation of employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense matters. She earned her Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law in Camden and her Bachelor of Business Administration from George Washington University. Ms. Duffield is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Alexis M. Rose, Esq., spoke on March 12, 2026, at the New Jersey Public Risk Management Association’s (NJPRIMA) Spring Educational Seminar. The event was held at the Knoll Country Club – West in Boonton, New Jersey.

During her presentation, Ms. Rose provided a legal update on two recent laws relating to mental health and PTSD claims for first responders. The first law, signed in June 2025, took away from employers the right to direct medical care in certain mental health cases for first responders, and allows these first responders to choose their own mental health professional for treatment of a work-related “critical incident.” The second law, signed in January 2026, provides employees diagnosed with PTSD with additional employment protections.

A member of the firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department, Ms. Rose focuses her practice in the representation of employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in workers’ compensation defense matters. She received her law degree from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law and a B.A. degree in Political Science from Rowan University. Upon graduating from law school, Ms. Rose worked as a law clerk for the Honorable Yolanda Rodriguez, J.S.C. She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
