On February 28, 2024, Capehart Scatchard associate, Ryan R. Solcum, Esq., served as the moderator for a remote CLE hosted by the Burlington County Bar Association’s (BCBA’s) Young Lawyers Committee. Mr. Slocum serves as a Young Lawyer Trustee of the BCBA
The CLE, entitled “Animal Abuse Laws,” featured a discussion on the development of animal rights and abuse laws in New Jersey. Assistant Burlington County Prosecutor Nicole Handy addressed the current law and the process of prosecuting animal abuse charges. Brian Hackett from the Associated Humane Society spoke on his work on recent legislation in New Jersey to protect animal rights, pending legislation, and areas of the law that may require changing in the future.
Mr. Slocum, an associate in the Workers’ Compensation Department, earned his J.D. from Rutgers Law School in Camden and a B.A. degree in English from Rutgers University. Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable John J. Burke, III in the Superior Court of New Jersey. He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
