Pride Month

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that in celebration of Pride Month, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at the firm, in conjunction with the Diversity Inclusion and Leadership Committee of the Burlington County Bar Association, participated in a Name Change Clinic sponsored by Volunteer Up, Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC), and Rutgers Name Change Clinic. The event took place on RCBC’s Mt. Laurel campus.

On June 13, 2024, ten attorneys from the firm met with New Jersey residents who identify as transgender, gender non-conforming, and/or non-binary to provide pro bono assistance for a simple name change. Securing a legal name change is an important step toward making an individual’s legal identity match their lived experience. Members of the LGBTQ+ community often face barriers limiting access to a name change and the benefits that come with it because the process can be confusing to navigate without legal representation.
