Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that paralegal, Kay M. Sowa, was recently designated as an Accredited Estate Planner® by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.

The Accredited Estate Planner® designation is a graduate level specialization in estate planning, obtained in addition to already recognized professional credentials within the various disciplines of estate planning. It is awarded by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils to recognize estate planning professionals who meet stringent requirements of experience, knowledge, education, professional reputation, and character, and who commit to the team concept of estate planning.

In addition to her paralegal duties in tax, accounting and litigation matters relating to trusts, estates and individuals, Ms. Sowa is an IRS Enrolled Agent eligible to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the IRS.  She is also a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor through the Institute of Certified Bankers.

Carmen Saginario was invited to speak at the Annual Fall Conference of the Government Finance Officers Association of New Jersey.  The conference will take place at the Golden Nugget Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City from September 24th through September 27th.

CFO and Firm Administrator, Howard P. Vogel, CPA MBA was one of thirty-five Outstanding CFOs who were honored at the CFO Excellence Awards Ceremony and Dinner Gala held at the Governor Morris Hotel, Morristown, NJ on June 6, 2019.

The CFO Excellence Awards celebrate highly accomplished CFOs who apply creativity and skill in contributing to and leading their organization’s economic growth, stability, and success.

Mr. Vogel, a Marlboro resident, has been with the firm since 2015 and is a graduate of the City University of New York – Queens College.  He received his MBA from St John’s University in New York.  Mr. Vogel is a member of the New Jersey Association of Legal Administrators and New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Capehart Scatchard hosted the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey’s (APALA-NJ) Annual South Jersey Mock Interview Workshop on July 30, 2019 at its Mount Laurel office.  The workshop was sponsored by Rutgers Law School Minority Student Program and Rutgers Law Center for Career Development.

The workshop featured a discussion on interviewing methods, tips and techniques, and allowed law students to practice interviewing while receiving real-time coaching from practicing attorneys.  Capehart Scatchard attorneys, Sanmathi (Sanu) Dev and Ruby Delarosa participated in the event.  The event was hosted by Capehart Scatchard’s Diversity & Inclusion committee, which Ms. Dev leads.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that for the second year in a row Shareholder, Gina M. Zippilli, Esq., was named in the top 5% among America’s Most Honored Professionals.

“America’s Most Honored” is a recognition program created by the American Registry to honor those professionals who have been publicly recognized for professional excellence by trade groups, peers, clients and the press. This accomplishment is realized by only the Top 5% of American Professionals.

In addition to this most recent honor, Gina has been recognized as a Top Attorney by SJ Magazine since 2014; a Top Attorney Industry Icon; Rising Star; and a New Leader of the Bar.

In addition to being the firm’s PIP expert, Gina focuses her practice in civil litigation matters involving, among other things, UM/UIM actions; bad faith claims; personal injury; and tort defense.   Her client base is mainly devoted to insurance carriers and national corporations.   She also has extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, premises liability and legal malpractice.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Jessica L. Rodio, Esq. was inducted as a Trustee of the Atlantic County Bar Association on June 6, 2019.

Ms. Rodio received her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and her B.A. degree in Criminal Justice, with minors in English and Legal Studies, from the University of Delaware. Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Nelson C. Johnson, J.S.C. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Atlantic County. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

On June 4, 2019, Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Sanmathi (Sanu) Dev, Esq. presented on a panel at the Seventh Annual Title IX Summit held at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.

Ms. Dev participated in a plenary discussion on best practices for Title IX compliance, specifically in terms of preventative and ongoing training opportunities for administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

Ms. Dev concentrates her practice on school law and labor and employment law.  She is experienced in representing, advising, and defending boards of education and charter schools in all areas of school law including: labor and employment, special education, Section 504, student discipline and civil rights.  She leads Capehart Scatchard’s School Law Blog, which focuses on cases, court decisions, and current developments affecting education law in the state of New Jersey.  Ms. Dev is the Chair of the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which seeks to facilitate the Firm’s efforts to achieve and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace at every level of our organization.   Ms. Dev also serves as the Firm’s Hiring Shareholder.  She received her law degree from Rutgers Law School at Camden and her B.A. degree from Boston University.

James Clancy was the recipient of the 20th Annual Blaine E. Capehart Legal Writing Award, presented at the law firm of Capehart Scatchard on May 14th.  The award recipient will graduate from Rutgers Law School in Camden on May 23, 2019.

The Mt. Laurel-based firm presented Mr. Clancy with a $2,500 award in recognition of his exemplary legal writing and research abilities.  The Firm offers this award to a graduating Rutgers law student on an annual basis in honor of the late Blaine E. Capehart.

Kelly Ann Dugan, Shareholder and Co-Chair of the Real Estate and Land Use Group, presented this year’s award.  Ms. Dugan reminded the audience that this was the 20th Anniversary of the Blaine E. Capehart Legal Writing Award presentation to a Rutgers Camden Law Student, evidence of the strong and long standing partnership the firm shares with the Law School.  In particular, Ms. Dugan spoke about the firm’s desire to honor accomplishment as the core value espoused by our founding partner Blaine Capehart: excellence in the practice of law, with an emphasis on high caliber legal writing.  She commended this year’s recipient, James Clancy, for the exemplary skill in both legal research and legal writing demonstrated in his work.  Ms. Dugan concluded by stating that, “No matter what the changes and developments in the legal profession may be, excellent communication skills, including excellent writing skills, will always be essential to a successful legal career.”

Capehart Scatchard shareholder, Vincent T. Cieslik, Esq., served as Chair of the March of Dimes Walk and 5K Run for Babies, held on the campus of Rowan University on Sunday, May 4, 2019. Vince, employees of the firm, along with friends and family members, participated in the event which raised money for research into the cause and a cure for premature child birth, to raise awareness of premature birth and health related issues, and to promote healthy moms and healthy babies.

Mr. Cieslik, a Gloucester Township New Jersey resident, represents physicians, medical practices, individuals and companies in business disputes, regulatory, real estate and banking matters. Mr. Cieslik also represents fiduciaries and parties in court cases related to wills and estates.
