The Appellate Practice Group offers a full range of appellate services, including outstanding oral and written  advocacy skills, prosecuting interlocutory appeals, consultation and moot courts, preserving potential appellate issues during trial court proceedings, and post-trial procedures. 

amy-goldsteinMt. Laurel, NJ – – Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Amy C. Goldstein, Esq. was recently sworn in as President Elect of the New Jersey State Chapter of the American Academy of  Matrimonial Lawyers (NJ-AAML).

The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers was founded in 1962 “to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards and advance the cause of matrimonial law, to the end that the welfare of the family and society be protected.”  There are  only 1600 AAML Fellows across the United States. They are recognized by judges and attorneys as preeminent family law practitioners with a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity.

Ms. Goldstein’s practice areas include all aspects of  family law including marital dissolutions , alimony, child support, cohabitation, child custody issues, prenuptial, post nuptial and cohabitation agreements, post-divorce cases, appeals and all related matters.  Ms. Goldstein received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1982.

Mt. Laurel, NJ – – Shareholder Alan P. Fox, Esq. recently spoke at the Fifth Annual Landlord-Tenant Law Update held in Cherry Hill, N.J. and  sponsored by Sterling Education Services.

In his presentation, Mr. Fox focused on the rights and remedies available to a tenant or landlord under a residential or commercial real estate lease when either party files for bankruptcy protection. His presentation covered various bankruptcy issues, including  the automatic stay,  and the treatment of the landlord’s claims following the assumption or rejection of a residential or a commercial real estate lease in Bankruptcy.

Blaine E. Capehart Legal Writing Award CeremonyMt. Laurel, NJ – Jordan Hollander was the recipient of the 15th Annual Blaine E. Capehart Legal Writing Award, presented at the law firm of Capehart Scatchard on May 16th.  The award recipient graduated from Rutgers School of Law in Camden on May 22, 2014.

The Mt. Laurel-based firm presented Mr. Hollander with a $2,500 award in recognition of his exemplary legal writing and research abilities.  The Firm offers this award to a graduating Rutgers – Camden law student on an annual basis in honor of the late Blaine E. Capehart.

Addressing the audience gathered for the presentation of the award to Mr. Hollander, Lora V. Northen, Co-Chair of the Workers’ Compensation Department, said, “As I began to reflect on Capehart Scatchard’s relationship with Rutgers Law School over the years, I thought of all the concrete examples of the bonds between us. Those bonds are real and they are tangible; we share a history.”

Mt. Laurel, NJ – – Capehart Scatchard Executive Committee Member, John H. Geaney, Esq. and Shareholder Thomas J. Walls, Jr. recently addressed the Central Jersey Claims Association at their monthly meeting.  In his presentation, Mr. Geaney presented Case Scenarios on Workers’ Compensation on Compensability.  In his presentation, Mr. Walls presented a legal case update on recent workers’ compensation decisions.

Mt. Laurel, NJ – Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that William R. Burns, has recently joined the firm as a Regulatory and Government Affairs Group Shareholder in the Trenton Office. He represents private and public sector clients with regard to issues involving state and local government. His areas of practice include environmental law, municipal government, land use, including Pinelands development, municipal land use approvals, and condemnation and civil and criminal litigation.

He received his J.D. from the University of Richmond and B.A. degree in Political Science from Gettysburg College. Mr. Burns is Certified by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Criminal Trial Attorney and is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Mr. Burns is an active pediatric cancer advocate, founder of #SAVEJOSH and a member of the Coalition Against Childhood Cancer (CAC2). He currently serves an Executive Board Member/Director of the Boy Scouts of America, Jersey Shore Council. Mr. Burns is a member of the Burlington County Bar Association and Mercer County Bar Association where he serves as a Committee Chair.

CASA RunMt. Laurel, NJ – –  Several attorneys from Capehart Scatchard’s Workers’ Compensation Department participated on April 26, 2014 in the CASA Kids Superhero 5K Run.  The event was held to raise money for the Mercer and Burlington Counties affiliate board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children.   CASA is an independent, non-profit organization committed  to speaking up for the best interests of abused and neglected children.

Mr. Henderson and Mr. Moumas, both Philadelphia residents, represent insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.

Mr. Henderson received his law degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law, cum laude, and his B.S. degree in Communications, Public Relations from Boston University.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Moumas received his law degree from Drexel University School of Law and his  B.S. degrees in Business Administration and Economics from Drexel University.   He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
