Workers’ Compensation Attorney and firm Shareholder, Michael L. Bileci, Esq., recently spoke at a seminar sponsored by J.A. Montgomery Risk Control.

Mr. Bileci spoke on the topic of “Workers’ Compensation Fraud.”  In his presentation, Mr. Bileci discussed the key elements of fraud, the different types of fraud and what employers can do to prevent fraud.

Mr. Bileci, a Woodbury resident, represents insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.  He received his law degree from Widener University School of Law, cum laude and his B.A. degree from Saint Joseph’s University, cum laude.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Capehart Scatchard Healthcare Law attorney, Sheila M. Mints presented a seminar on October 28, 2016 entitled, “Legal Issues in Medical Practice Management.” The seminar took place at the Annual Convention of the American College of Osteopathic Internists in Palm Desert, CA.

In her presentation, Ms. Mints addressed legal issues pertaining to accountable care organizations and independent practice associations.  Additionally, she spoke on recent regulations issued under the Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act.

Ms. Mints, a resident of Riverton, Co-chairs the Healthcare Law Group. She specializes in healthcare transactional matters, including shareholder and employment agreements, purchases and sales of medical practices, including ACO transactions, and practice mergers. Ms. Mints acts as general counsel to many large practices and ambulatory care facilities, assisting with transactional, tax, human resources mattes and negotiation with payors and vendors. An experienced tax lawyer, Ms. Mints represents her clients before the Internal Revenue Service, the federal Tax Court and state taxation departments in a variety of tax matters.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Managing Shareholder, Mary Ellen Rose, Esq., will be a 2017 recipient of the Alice Paul Equality Award.  The annual award is given by the Alice Paul Institute located in Mount Laurel, New Jersey.

The award is named in memory of Alice Stokes Paul who was born in Mount Laurel in 1885.  Alice Paul was a women’s rights activist who played a key role in the women’s suffrage movement that led to the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1920.  After the passage of the 19th Amendment, she continued to fight for women’s equality and was active in the movement until her death in 1977.

The Alice Paul Equality Award is given to individuals from any industry or field who capture the spirit of Alice Paul, and as a consequence, either directly or indirectly, continue Alice’s mission of advancing women’s equality in America.

Ms. Rose, a lifelong resident of New Jersey, focuses her practice in the areas of commercial and business law, transportation, and franchise law.  She received her undergraduate degree magna cum laude from West Virginia University and her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden.  She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Joseph A. Acosta, Esq., Caitlin C. Harney, Esq., and Linda M. Payne, Esq. have recently joined the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department in its Mount Laurel office.

Mr. Acosta, a Voorhees resident, Ms. Harney, a Philadelphia resident, and Ms. Payne, a Cherry Hill resident, represent insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.

Mr. Acosta received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and his B.A. degrees in English and Philosophy from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Geiger, J.S.C. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Cumberland County.  He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Ms. Harney received her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and her B.S. degree in Finance from Lehigh University. Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Timothy W. Chell, in the New Jersey Superior Court, Gloucester County. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Ms. Payne received her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and her B.A. degree in History from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.  Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold U. Johnson, Jr., P.J.F.P. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Cumberland County.  Ms. Payne was an associate with Smedley & Lis, LLC prior to joining Capehart Scatchard. She is admitted to practice in New Jersey.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Joseph F. Kampherstein, III, Esq. has recently joined its Litigation Department as an associate in the Mt. Laurel office.

Mr. Kampherstein, a Warrington, PA resident, focuses his practice in general litigation throughout the courts in Pennsylvania and New Jersey with a concentration on tort defense matters.

Mr. Kampherstein received his law degree from Temple University, Beasley School of Law and his B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Scranton.  He is admitted to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Ms. Goldstein was also named a “Lawyer of the Year” in the practice of Family Law. The “Lawyer of the Year” Honor is conferred upon a single attorney who received the highest peer-feedback overall in a specific practice area and geographic location.

Ms. Goldstein is President of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Additionally, she served as an appointed member of the New State Bar Association Family Law Executive Committee for nine years and has been appointed to serve on many other state and county legal organizations. She handles all issues related to family law and lectures and writes frequently on those topics. Ms. Goldstein received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1982.

Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Yasmeen S. Khaleel, was recently named by the Burlington County Times and the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce as an Emerging Leader.  Ms. Khaleel is one of twenty-one business and community leaders selected to the list, which identifies individuals who are driving business forward and making substantial contributions to community life.

Ms. Khaleel is the co-chair of the firm’s Wills, Trusts and Estates Department, as well as the Business and Tax Department. Khaleel focuses her practice on representing individuals, business owners, medical, dental and other professionals in estate planning, estate and trust administration, business succession planning and transactional and tax planning.  Ms. Khaleel is the president of the Estate and Financial Planning Council of Southern New Jersey, is on the board of directors for the Animal Welfare Association, is a committee member of the Samaritan Hospice and Health Care Planned Giving Committee and sits on the board of directors for Asian Indian Professionals, Inc.

Mr. Nagy, a Southampton resident, and Ms. Vizcarra, a Voorhees resident, represent insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.

Mr. Nagy received his law degree, cum laude, from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and his B.A. degrees in History and Political Science, cum laude, from Rutgers University in New Brunswick. While in Law School, Mr. Nagy was selected as the winner of the James Hunter III Moot Court Program in the 2012-2013 Competition. Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable J. Christopher Gibson, J.S.C. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Cape May County.

Ms. Vizcarra received her law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Camden and her B.S. degree in Finance from Rutgers University School of Business in Camden.  Ms. Vizcarra served as a Law Clerk for the firm during law school.

Capehart Scatchard Healthcare Law attorney, Sheila M. Mints recently presented a webinar entitled, “Physician Supervision of Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.” The webinar was open to members of the New Jersey Medical Group Management Association.

In her presentation, Ms. Mints addressed the scope of responsibility of a physician when it comes to the use and supervision of mid-level providers.  Additionally, she spoke on recent statutory changes in New Jersey pertaining to physician’s assistants.

Several attorneys from Capehart Scatchard’s Workers’ Compensation Department recently attended the Fourth Annual Gala for Kids’ Chance of New Jersey.  Capehart Scatchard was a sponsor of the Gala held on July 28, 2016 at the Heldrich Hotel in New Brunswick, N.J.

The Gala was a fundraiser for Kids’ Chance, a non-profit organization, created to provide educational opportunities and scholarships for the children of workers who were fatally or catastrophically injured on the job.  John Geaney and Lora Northen, shareholders in the firm, serve as members of the Kids’ Chance Board of Directors.

The highlight of the Gala featured the presentation of scholarships to fifteen students whose parents suffered fatal or physically catastrophic injuries while working.  John Geaney presented a check for $10,000 to Will Gardner.  Gardner’s father, Bill Gardner, who worked for Fed-Ex as a truck driver, lost his life in a work- related truck accident.  Lora Northen presented a check for $10,000 to George Lockhart whose father, a podiatrist, was murdered in an attempted car robbery while leaving work one night.
