Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, John H. Geaney, Esq., recently spoke at the New Jersey Self Insurers’ Association Spring Conference held at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Mr. Geaney’s presentation was titled, “Workers’ Compensation College Bowl.”   His presentation covered the more complex issues facing workers’ compensation practitioners and involved audience participation.

A seasoned workers’ compensation practitioner for over 30 years, Mr. Geaney, a Moorestown resident, is the author of Geaney’s New Jersey Workers’ Compensation Manual and A Guide to Employment Issues Under the ADA & FMLA distributed by the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education.  Mr. Geaney concentrates his practice in the representation of employers in workers’ compensation defense matters, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Dana M. Gayeski, Esq. recently joined the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department in its Mt. Laurel office.

Ms. Gayeski, a Paulsboro resident, represents insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.

Ms. Gayeski received her law degree from Temple University, Beasley School of Law and her B.S. degree in Finance and International Business from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business.  Upon law school graduation, Ms. Gayeski worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Robert P. Becker, Jr. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Gloucester County.  She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that noted health law attorneys Sheila M. Mints, Esq. and Denise L. Sanders, Esq. have joined the firm’s Healthcare Law Department as Shareholders in its Mt. Laurel office.

Ms. Mints, a resident of Riverton, Co-chairs the Healthcare Law Group. She specializes in healthcare transactional matters, including shareholder and employment agreements, purchases and sales of medical practices, including ACO transactions, and practice mergers. Ms. Mints acts as general counsel to many large practices and ambulatory care facilities, assisting with transactional, tax, human resources mattes and negotiation with payors and vendors. An experienced tax lawyer, Ms. Mints represents her clients before the Internal Revenue Service, the federal Tax Court and state taxation departments in a variety of tax matters.

Ms. Sanders, a resident of Marlton, focuses her practice in the areas of healthcare regulatory compliance and privacy and security. Her extensive experience representing physicians and healthcare providers includes advising on self-referral laws, anti-kickback, licensure, scope of practice, collaborative arrangements, and HIPAA privacy, security and data breach issues. Her representative healthcare clients include individual and group practices, ambulatory surgery providers, ambulatory care facilities, urgent care, home care, and ancillary services providers. She also counsels public entities and businesses of all types regarding compliance with federal and state legal requirements related to data breach, identity theft, cybersecurity, and ecommerce.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Laurel B. Peltzman, Esq. and Samantha J. Vander Wielen, Esq. are recipients of the New Jersey Law Journal’s 2016 New Leaders of the Bar award.

The New Jersey Law Journal presents the prestigious New Leaders of the Bar award on an annual basis to a select group of New Jersey attorneys under the age of 40. Criteria for the selection of these rising stars include demonstrated leadership qualities, expertise in litigation, charitable volunteer work and other factors that exemplify the ways that these attorneys stand out among their peers. A seven-judge panel reviews all nominations from the State and narrows their list down to reflect only those attorneys that exhibited the qualities and experience that make each of them a 2016 New Leader.

Ms. Peltzman, a Cherry Hill resident, focuses her practice in the representation of public and private sector employers in the areas of labor and employment matters. She regularly represents public and private sector clients in labor and employment litigation and provides employers with advice regarding various employment-related matters. She also provides training seminars for employers and their employees on many different topics, including appropriate behavior in the workplace. Ms. Peltzman is a member of the New Jersey, Camden County and Burlington County Bar Associations.  Additionally, she is a member of Philadelphia’s Regional Chapter of the Society of Human Resources Management.

Ms. Vander Wielen, a Burlington County resident, focuses her practice in general litigation throughout the federal and state courts of New Jersey and Pennsylvania with a concentration on insurance defense and business matters. She has successfully represented clients in all aspects of litigation in cases involving construction, products and premises liability, business and contract disputes, restrictive covenants, property subrogation and personal injury.  She has extensive experience representing both national and international businesses and corporations in commercial litigation matters involving contract, employment, proprietary information and business disputes.  Ms. Vander Wielen also counsels and advises businesses on these issues in order to avoid litigation.  Ms. Vander Wielen is currently the 2015-2017 Young Lawyer Trustee of the Burlington County Bar Association.

WorkersCompensation.com has named the New Jersey Workers’ Comp Blog, http://www.njworkerscompblog.com/, published by John Geaney, Esq. as one of its “Best Blogs” for 2016 in the category of Regional/State Specific blogs.

The winnings blogs were all nominated by citizens of the workers’ compensation community. They were judged on several criteria. In addition to objective categories such as age of blog, frequency of posting and website traffic, they were also assessed by an independent judging panel for content quality, value and timeliness.  The winning blogs were culled from the more than 50 nominated in more than 200 individual entries.

Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, John H. Geaney, Esq., recently spoke at a meeting of the Monmouth-Ocean Counties Shared Services Insurance Fund (MOCSSIF).

Mr. Geaney addressed issues school boards face in workers’ compensation cases, including the decisions in Williams v. Deptford Board of Education and High v. Rose. Mr. Geaney also spoke on workers’ compensation fraud.

On March 16, 2016, Amy Goldstein participated in a Panel Discussion at the Annual Seminar presented by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers entitled “Handling Financial Issues for Moderate and High Net Worth Clients.” The focus of the seminar was the detailed evaluation of personal and business income tax returns and other financial records for use during depositions and trial.

Amy Goldstein was recently named in the Best Lawyers’ Business Edition for 2016 which was subtitled  “Women in the Law” for her expertise in the area of Family Law. Ms. Goldstein was the only woman in South Jersey to receive this honor. Ms. Goldstein will be sworn in as President of the  New Jersey Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers on June 11, 2016. 2016 CASA RUNCapehart Scatchard employees and their family members participated on April 23, 2016 in the CASA Kids Superhero 5K Run.  The firm raised over $1,200 for CASA and was commended for giving the most for the past two years in a row for the CASA run. The event was held to raise money for the Mercer and Burlington Counties affiliate board of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) for children.   CASA is an independent, non-profit organization committed to speaking up for the best interests of abused and neglected children

Mt. Laurel, NJ – Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Thomas D. Begley III, spoke on April 9, 2016 at the Annual Conference for the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) in Denver, Colorado.  The conference was attended by nearly 200 elder law attorneys from around the country.

Mr. Begley’s presentation was entitled, “Protecting the Public from Predatory Practices.” The focus of his presentation was to identify and help seniors who are often subject by various groups and even attorneys to scams, imprudent financial products and improper legal work.

A resident of Moorestown, Mr. Begley is the Chair of the Trusts and Estates Group at Capehart Scatchard.  He is routinely recognized as one of the top lawyers in New Jersey by a variety of publications including Super Lawyers, SJ Magazine and South Jersey Magazine.  He is a Certified Elder Law Attorney as recognized by the National Elder Law Foundation.
