Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Commercial Litigation Department and School Law Department associate, Stacey R. Gorin, Esq., has been named by South Jersey Biz magazine as a “Woman to Watch.” The 2024 list recognizes eighteen women, from various professions, who are claiming their spaces and using their voices to secure a well-deserved–and long overdue–seat at the table.

Ms. Gorin earned her J.D. from Rutgers Law School in Camden, a M.A. in Professional and Business Communication from La Salle University, and a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Saint Joseph’s University.  Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Richard J. Nocella, P.J.F.P. in Burlington County.  She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.

Nicholas A. Dibble, a Workers’ Compensation Department shareholder at Capehart Scatchard, and School Law Department associate, Stacey R. Gorin, represented the firm at Samaritan’s 2024 “Celebration of Life Gala.” The annual fundraising event is held in support of Samaritan’s mission to provide hospice, grief support, palliative and primary care services. The firm was a silver sponsor of the Gala held at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Cherry Hill, New Jersey on February 10, 2024.

In addition to being a fundraiser, the Gala was a celebration of Samaritan’s 43 years of providing life-enhancing care to more than 11,000 families annually throughout Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, and Mercer Counties. In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at Capehart Scatchard partnered with the Food Bank of South Jersey (FBSJ) to arrange for attorneys and staff from the firm to collect, inspect, sort, and package food. Over twenty employees volunteered to work during two shifts at the FBSJ’s headquarters in Pennsauken, New Jersey on January 15, 2024.

The Food Bank of South Jersey exists to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger by providing food to people in need, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them to find sustainable ways to improve their lives. Robert Muccilli, Esq. and Lora V. Northen, Esq. recently retired after careers of more than 35 years at Capehart Scatchard.

Mr. Muccilli was a shareholder and co-chair of the Education Practice Group. Ms. Northern was a shareholder in the Workers’ Compensation Group and a past President of the National Workers’ Compensation Defense Network.

Both Mr. Muccilli and Ms. Northen are highly respected and well regarded among their colleagues and will be missed.

 

Alan P. Fox, Esq., Chair of Capehart Scatchard’s Alternative Energy Dept. and Co-Chair of the Real Estate and Land Use Dept., was a speaker for a national continuing legal education webinar titled “Commercial Real Estate Contracts A-Z: Drafting, Reviewing, and Negotiation Tips No Real Estate Lawyer Should Do Without.” The webinar was held on December 28, 2023, and hosted by NBI.

During his presentation titled “Drafting Commercial Leases,” Mr. Fox gave an overview of practical tips for drafting most types of commercial leases. He also spoke on the unique drafting issues related to photovoltaic solar facilities and issues related to leasing for a retail cannabis business.

Over the past several weeks, Capehart Scatchard attorneys and staff have been donating toys, clothes, gift cards, entertainment tickets, and household items listed on the “Holiday Wish List” provided to the firm by the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey (RMHSNJ). Karen Klupp, the firm’s Director of Human Resources, will deliver the collected items to the RMHSNJ in Camden on December 22, 2023.

Firm attorneys and staff are committed to giving back in impactful ways to charities and causes in the local community. The Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey provides a “home-away-from-home” for families of children through age 21 who are receiving treatment at Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia area hospitals and live outside the local area.

In conjunction with the Burlington County Bar Association (BCBA) and Burlington County Bar Foundation, Capehart Scatchard attorneys Stacey Gorin, Jennifer Loughran, and Ryan Slocum, helped distribute Thanksgiving meals to Burlington County families in need on November 21, 2023. Ms. Gorin currently serves as Secretary to the BCBA and Mr. Slocum serves as a Young Lawyer Trustee.

Ms. Gorin spearheaded the BCBA’s fundraising efforts to provide warm holiday meals for the families. Chef Robert Minniti of Bacio Catering in Palmyra prepared the meals that were distributed to over 50 families, comprised of mostly single mothers, children, and seniors.

Capehart Scatchard Shareholder, Lauren E. Tedesco-Dallas, Esq., recently spoke at webinar entitled “Employment Discrimination: New Jersey Division on Civil Rights Complaint & Investigation Process.”  The webinar, held on November 8, 2023, was sponsored by the Institute for Professional Development.

Ms. Tedesco-Dallas presented on the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and the types of discrimination protected by the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights.  Additionally, she discussed the Division’s complaint and investigation process, what an employer should do when they receive a complaint, and the New Jersey Bias Investigation Access System (NJBIAS).

Ms. Tedesco-Dallas concentrates her practice on the representation of boards of education and charter schools in all areas of school law including labor and employment, special education, Section 504, student discipline, FERPA, Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act, student residency, civil rights, tenure, OPRA, OPMA, and teaching staff tenure matters under TEACHNJ and ACHIEVENJ.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Michael C. Rose, Esq. recently rejoined the Firm’s Workers’ Compensation Department as a shareholder in its Mt. Laurel office.

Mr. Rose represents employers, self-insured companies, and insurance carriers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation.

He received his law degree from Widener University School of Law and a B.A. degree in Political Science from La Salle University.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey.
