Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Workers’ Compensation Associate, Jessica A. Wilson, Esq., was sworn in for her second three-year term as a Trustee of the Mercer County Bar Association.   The installation ceremony took place on February 24, 2022 at the Mercer Oaks Golf Course in West Windsor.

Mrs. Wilson received her law degree and B.A. degree in Sociology and Political Science from Stetson University.  Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Peter E. Warshaw, J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey, Mercer County.  Mrs. Wilson is President-Elect of the Bordentown Rotary Club and a member of the Robert Wood Johnson Hamilton Hospital Foundation’s Young Professionals Group.  She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Capehart Scatchard paralegal, Kay M. Sowa, spoke at a CLE sponsored by the Cincinnati Paralegal Association on February 3, 2022.  Ms. Sowa’s remote presentation, entitled “2022 Tax Update,” focused on recent developments in individual and fiduciary income taxes.  Additionally, she discussed the tax implications of the American Rescue Plan and the proposed Build Back Better Act.

In addition to her paralegal duties in tax, accounting and litigation matters relating to trusts, estates and individuals, Ms. Sowa is an IRS Enrolled Agent eligible to represent taxpayers before all administrative levels of the IRS.  She is also a Certified Trust and Financial Advisor through the Institute of Certified Bankers and an Accredited Estate Planner® as designated by the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that Patrick J. Graham, Esq., Nuo Jiang, Esq., Paige A. Joffe, Esq., Benjamin P. Ojserkis, Esq., and Bridget E. Velez, Esq. joined the firm as associates in its Mt. Laurel office.

Mr. Graham, Mr. Jiang, and Ms. Joffe focus their practice in litigation through the federal and state courts in New Jersey.  Mr. Ojserkis focuses his practice on cannabis law, policy, and regulatory compliance, and health law. Ms. Velez focuses her practice on representing employers and public entities in labor and employment law policy, procedural and litigation matters.

Mr. Graham received his law degree from Rutgers Law School, Camden and B.A. degree in English with a Minor in Writing from Neumann University. Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Jean S. Chetney, J.S.C. in Salem County.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Jiang received his law degree from Rutgers Law School, Camden and B.S. degree in Microbiology from the University of California – Davis. He was previously an associate with the Law Offices of Daniel B. Zonies in Cherry Hill.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey.

Ms. Joffe received her law degree from Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law and B.S. degree in Business Administration from Drexel University. Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Christine S. Orlando, J.S.C. in Camden County.  She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr. Ojserkis received his law degree from Rutgers Law School, Camden and B.A. degree in History with a Minor in Central Eurasian Studies from Indiana University Bloomington. While at Rutgers Law School, he was an Eagleton Policy and Law Fellow, where he was assigned to the New Jersey Department of Health – Division of Medicinal Marijuana. Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Anthony M. Massi, J.S.C. in Mercer County.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey.

Ms. Velez received her law degree from Rutgers Law School, Newark and B.A. degree in Political Science from Lehigh University.  Upon law school graduation, she worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Douglas H. Hurd, P.J. Civ. in Mercer County.  She is admitted to practice law in New Jersey.

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at the firm, in conjunction with the Diversity Inclusion and Leadership Committee of the Burlington Country Bar Association (BCBA), collected donations of food throughout the month of January for the Food Bank of South Jersey.  Additionally, on February 4, 2022, volunteers from the firm and BCBA volunteered their time to sort, pack and distribute groceries at the Food Bank of South Jersey’s Pop-Up Food Pantry located in Westampton, New Jersey.

Capehart Scatchard was a platinum sponsor of the Minority Student Program Fifth Annual Pre-Law Diversity Conference, hosted by the Minority Student Program at Rutgers Law School in Camden.  The keynote speaker at the virtual event held on January 22, 2022 was the Honorable Fabiana Pierre-Louis, Associate Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Capehart Scatchard’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee Chair, Sanmathi (Sanu) Dev, Esq., spoke at the conference attended by underrepresented undergraduate students who are considering attending law school.  Ms. Dev spoke about her career path, her education law practice, and answered questions from the students.

Renee C. Vidal, Esq., a Shareholder in Capehart’s Business & Tax and Wills, Trusts & Estates Groups, recently made an appearance on RVN TV’s “It’s Your Money” program hosted by financial planners, Jo Ann M. Morgano and Martin Saltzman.  On the show, Renee shared her experience in estate planning and spoke about the importance of having a Last Will and Testament, Durable Power of Attorney, Medical Power of Attorney and Health Care Directive/Living Will.

Mr. McCaffrey represent insurance carriers and employers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims at all stages of litigation. He received his law degree from Rutgers School of Law in Camden and a dual B.A. degree in Economics and Political Science from Rutgers University in New Brunswick.  Upon law school graduation, he worked as a law clerk to the Honorable Anne McDonnell, J.S.C. in the New Jersey Superior Court, Gloucester County.  He is admitted to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

 

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that the Diversity & Inclusion Committee at the firm, in conjunction with Burlington Country Bar Association (BCBA), collected monetary donations as well as donations of gift cards, costumes, treats, and pumpkins to ensure the children receiving services from Providence House Domestic Violence Services have a fun Halloween.  In addition, on October 16, 2021, thirty volunteers from the firm and BCBA rolled up their sleeves to paint a gazebo, plant flowers, spruce up the yard, and clean the kitchen and playroom at a safe house run by the organization.

Providence House Domestic Violence Services, which is based in Westampton, provides comprehensive services for victims of domestic abuse and their children free of charge at outreach offices and emergency safe houses in Burlington and Ocean Counties.

 

Capehart Scatchard is pleased to announce that the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council has selected, shareholder Sanmathi “Sanu” Dev, to receive the “Woman of the Week” award for the week of September 27, 2021.  Ms. Dev was nominated for the award by a member of the Advisory Council for her outstanding service to the Burlington County community.

Ms. Dev, a Burlington County resident, concentrates her practice on school law and labor and employment law.  She is experienced in representing, advising, and defending boards of education and charter schools in all areas of school law including: labor and employment, special education, Section 504, student discipline and civil rights.  She leads Capehart Scatchard’s School Law Blog, which focuses on cases, court decisions, and current developments affecting education law in the state of New Jersey.  Ms. Dev is the Chair of the Firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, which seeks to facilitate the Firm’s efforts to achieve and maintain a diverse and inclusive workplace at every level of our organization.   Ms. Dev also serves as the Firm’s Hiring Shareholder.  She received her law degree from Rutgers Law School at Camden and her B.A. degree from Boston University.

In addition, Ms. Dev serves as a Co-Chair of the Burlington County Bar Association’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Leadership Committee and is a Trustee of the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey. She also serves on the Rutgers Law School Dean’s Council and is a member of the Rutgers Alumni for Diversity, Community-Building, and Access in the Law. Throughout her career, Ms. Dev has mentored law students and young attorneys particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds.
